Day 13 - Sand Springs, OK

Today turned out to be a surprisingly great day!  We stayed a second night at Pleasant Valley Farms and it was so nice to not have to rush out and move onto the next stop.  We headed for Walmart for some groceries and other household items we realize we needed.  Like a fly swatter!  On the way there we passed the Rock Creek Golf Course and of course Dougie had to play.  After 9 holes we stopped to see the Bridge No. 18 Rock Creek.  This is one of the still standing bridges from the original Route 66.  All of the steel is welded and the road is all brick.  This has been here for 100 years!

Fun Facts:

- Oklahoma has over 400 drivable miles of Route 66, which includes more miles of original alignment than any other Route 66 state.

- Sapulpa sits directly on the historic highway and features the World’s Tallest Gas Pump.

- The earliest recorded Juneteenth (Emancipation Day) celebration in Sapulpa dates back to 1908 in local historical archives

- The first coin-operated parking meter was installed in downtown Oklahoma City on July 16, 1935 and the owner of the Piggly Wiggly supermarket chain, invented the first folding shopping cart and introduced it in Oklahoma City in 1937
