Day 11 - Springfield, MO

Oh my, and I thought yesterday was a good day! We had so much laughter today our sides hurt.  We left St. Louis heading for Springfield.  According to a lot of people, one of the MUST SEE was the Fanning Outpost & General Store in Cuba, MO.  Needless to say, not much there.  We bought a barbecue rub and a refrigerator magnet. The only interesting thing was the soda in the cooler.  Not one of these are normal soda.  They are: Mustard, Butter, Cucumber, Apple Pie 🤷‍♀️.  This place has the famous rocking chair not to be confused with the world’s largest chair in Casey.

Our next stop was absolutely hysterical.  We stopped at the Uranus Fudge Factory!  No lie.  The number of items they had that referenced Uranus and Fudge was ridiculous.  There wasn’t any rude comment you could make that the employees hadn’t already made.  Our cashier was so funny.  Everything she said was alluding to Uranus. 😆😆

  •  Because that wasn’t enough in one day, we went golfing.  And when I say we, I mean Doug, I ride along. Our stop for tonight is a place called Briggs Safari.  It’s one of the Harvest Hosts locations. And this picture is a fraction of the number we saw right outside our windows.  There are deer everywhere you look.  Not a bad deal for $0.  And we have water and electricity.

Fun Facts:

- Missouri ties with Tennessee for the most neighboring states, bordered by eight different states. (Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska)

- Springfield, MO is home to a massive underground business complex called Subtropolis.  A portion of it is used to store millions of pounds of government surplus cheese, earning it the nickname the “American Strategic Cheese Reserve”.

- Missouri was a location of the United States’ most devastating recorded tornado and it survived the continental United States’ most powerful earthquake.

Nancy, we haven’t stayed long enough in one place to even think about swimming.

Any poolside lounging or spa days for Diane to counterbalance the golfing yet?
